Instagram has launched a new video editing application named, ‘Edits’ which is a lot similar to ByteDance’s CapCut, which was recently taken offline in the U.S. The head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri shared the news in an Instagram post, highlighting that the app offers a comprehensive set of creative tools.
Users can capture photos and videos, edit clips, and add features such as a green screen. In his announcement, Mosseri emphasized, “Edits transcends the typical video editing app; it’s a complete toolkit for creativity. There will be a special tab for inspiration, another to jot down your initial ideas, and a high-quality camera that I used to film this video.”
He further added, “It includes all the editing features you’d expect, the option to share drafts with friends and fellow creators, and if you choose to post your videos on Instagram, you’ll receive valuable insights into their performance.”
In addition to this, Mosseri also comments on Threads suggesting that Edits is just a clone of CapCut. He focused that Edits will evolve into something completely different, offering a wider array of creative tools while catering to a more niche audience.
Mosseri explained, “It’s been several months, and I believe it will diverge significantly from CapCut. Edits will feature a much broader selection of creative tools and likely appeal to a smaller audience. Imagine a platform for organizing all your ideas rather than just templates. Envision AI-driven video editing tools tailored for each clip or video. Picture new insights into what makes your videos thrive or falter.” Recently, both TikTok and CapCut went temporarily offline in the US because of a federal law enacted last year. Shortly after the apps were taken offline, President-elect Donald Trump announced plans to sign an executive order granting TikTok 90 days to comply with the law.
