PlayStation is ready to shift its focus away from offering monthly PlayStation 4 games beginning in 2026. While the subscription service will still occasionally include PS4 titles, the major emphasis will now be on PS5 games. This change comes after nearly the entire lifespan of the current console reflecting a growing demand from players.
The company has announced on the PlayStation Blog, “As a significant number of our players are now enjoying their gaming experience on PS5 and are increasingly redeeming PS5 titles through the Monthly Games and Game Catalog, PlayStation Plus is adapting to this trend. Beginning January 2026, we will concentrate on offering PS5 titles through these benefits.”
It further added, “As we transition to PS5, PS4 games will no longer be a central feature and will only be offered sporadically in the Monthly Games and Game Catalog starting January 2026. However, we may still include titles that are playable on both PS4 and PS5 consoles after this date.”
In the meantime, there are still several months of PS4 games lined up for the service, with the newly announced selection of February available for download from the 4th of February to the 3rd of March:
This announcement provides current PS4 owners with a year to decide whether to renew their subscriptions, even as the main benefit for them reduces. However, PS4 players can still claim PS5 games and will be able to download and play them once they upgrade to Sony’s latest hardware. This is one of the advantages of the existing PSN ecosystem: player’s libraries are designed to remain intact and compatible across console generations, including when the PS6 eventually arrives. PS Plus subscribers on PS4 have enjoyed a strong selection since the launch of consoles in 2013 beginning with titles like Resogun.
