A lot of users often wish that their MacBook would not turn on the moment it is lifted or as soon as the lid is plugged in. Apple has released an official guide that explains how this feature could be turned off.
This method is a bit of a workaround for power users as there is no straightforward toggle available in the Settings menu. However, this is likely acceptable since those who are more tech-savvy would opt to disable the automatic startup.
In the support document, Apple has highlighted the necessary steps that are required to modify this default setting. Initially, they need to ensure that a Mac laptop with Apple silicon is running macOS Sequoia or a later version.
Next, they are supposed to open the Terminal app which can be found in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder. Following this they are supposed to put one of the following commands in the Terminal before tapping the Return button.
If users ever want to re-enable the feature of automatic startup when opening the lid, all they need to do is follow the command, sudo nvram -d BootPreference.
These instructions are handy for anybody who is looking forward to adjusting their MacBook’s default behavior for various reasons. They need to keep in mind that these steps would not stop the MacBook from booting up if the key is pressed or if they tap the trackpad.
