68 percent of iPhones are now running on iOS 18

On Friday, Apple revealed the adoption rates for iOS 18 which show only a modest change compared to the figures for iOS 17 from the previous year. According to the company, as of January 21, iOS 18 has been installed on 68% of all iPhones, while 76% of devices that were released in the last four years have also made the upgrade.

In comparison to a year ago, 66% of all the iPhones were operating on iOS 17 which indicated a slight increase of two percent for iOS 18 this year. The statistic regarding newer iPhone models remains unchanged with 76% running iOS 17 in January 2024, mirroring the current data.

The trend among iPad users is similarly stagnant and Apple has reported that 53% of all iPads are now using iPadOS 18. This is consistent with the adoption rate of iPadOS 17 from a year ago.

In addition to this, 63% of iPads that were released in the last four years are operating on iPadOS 18. However, with a slight improvement over the 61% of the devices from the previous four years that were using iPadOS 17 at the beginning of the year.

Unfortunately, the company has not disclosed how many individuals have opted to engage with its suite of generative AI features. Nonetheless, it is reasonable to assume that Apple is keen on boosting the adoption of Apple Intelligence.

In the latest beta version of iOS 18.3, the company has made its AI features available by default during the onboarding process.

Users still have the option to opt out but doing so will need navigating through the settings. Earlier, these features were only accessible through an opt-in agreement during the setup. This updated software could be released for the users to install and use as soon as next week.
