Over the years, the Apple Watch has played a major role in saving several lives and each incident is different in its own right. Recently, the device has added another remarkable story to its legacy in Washington.

On Wednesday, the Chelan County Sheriff’s Office got an urgent call that was triggered by the Apple Watch’s Emergency SOS Feature. Because of the Fall Detection, Crash Detection, and Emergency SOS capabilities, the watch can alert emergency services if the wearer is involved in an accident to faces a critical situation.

Even if the were is unconscious, the watch will summon help on its own and provide the exact location of the individual in trouble. It can also reach out to the emergency contacts of the user, informing them of the situation and sharing the location of the injured person.

After getting an alert from the Apple Watch, the office of the Sheriff coordinated with King County Air Support to help an injured skier. The only details that are available about the victim were that he had fallen 1,000 feet while skiing which resulted in a leg injury.

The rescue team was launched shortly after sunset on Wednesday and the skier was successfully located. A video was released by King Country Sheriff Air Support that captured the dramatic rescue showing a figure waving to the rescue crew for about 1 minute and 14 seconds in the footage.

The camera which is equipped with heat-sensing technology, reveals a ghostly white silhouette signaling for help. As the helicopter approached, the outline of the victim became even clearer and he was seen lying on the ground while another individual signaled to the first responders. The injured skier was secured and was carefully and safely lifted into the helicopter from the scene making the rescue mission a success.
