Unveiled by Google, the Pixel 3 Watch last year was a sequel to the launch of the Pixel 9 series smartwatch, featuring the same elegant and continually segmented design of its predecessors.
Besides Loss of Pulse Detection, the latest model brought with itself something new tool that tells the critical moment when the organ of blood circulation stops beating. In the U.S., however, restrictions were placed on the feature immediately by the tech giant, with all eyes on the go-ahead from the authorities concerned.
The green light has now come from the Food and Drug Administration. Pixel Watch and Apple Watch are just a couple of smartwatches that use innovative health sensors to monitor sudden medical events.
They are capable of signalling a person about an atrial fibrillation (AFib) condition that puts him at greater risk of suffering from a stroke or heart attack. However, according to Google, Loss of Pulse Detection goes beyond such matters and provides more capability for consumer wearables.
Just like those EKG features that sprouted everywhere a few years ago, Loss of Pulse Detection also requires regulatory clearance. Google has attained permission to launch the Pixel Watch 3 with this feature across several European countries.
It eventually rolled it out to a total of 14 of them: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom.
At that time, Google indicated the release of more regions once regulatory birds cleared the feature, with the FDA as the first flight that flew outside Europe to approve further rollout bringing the total to 15 countries.
Interestingly, nothing new or special in terms of sensors has been included in the Pixel Watch 3 for Loss of Pulse Detection. Instead, existing smartwatch sensors are employed in a novel manner, one being a “multi-path” heart rate sensor that captures readings every second.
