Lenovo launches New External SSD with improved security features

A USB-C external SSD (Solid State Drive) has been designed to resemble a hand grenade which is right now looking for funding in China. This eye-catching gadget promises rapid data transfer, however, its striking appearance might raise eyebrows during screenings at the airport for security.

Lenovo has introduced this unique external SSD which gets its inspiration from the recent Chinese military firm, Operation Dragon. Operation Dragon is also referred to as Operation Leviathan or Operation Hadal.

While its design sets it apart from others, it also makes it a potentially awkward gift for frequent flyers, as it could easily alarm security staff. The caption that comes with this product image translates to “Lenovo Crowdfunding — Lifesaver Tactical Mobile Solid State Drive. Officially authorized hardcore aluminum alloy grenade shape. USB 3.2 high-speed protocol. Compatible with multiple specifications of SSD.”

The logos of Lenovo Legion and Operation Hadal are majorly displayed in the image. According to the crowdfunding page of Lenovo, this grenade-shaped SSD has the potential to be a hit. It sits at 69% funding with over three weeks remaining for the campaign.

Different Chinese tech media outlets are shining a spotlight on this unconventional product today. All the specifications for this 599-yuan which is around $82 crowdfunding item are still under wraps. It is expected to offer an ITB capacity, data transfer speeds reaching up to 1,050 MB/s, and a USB Type-C connection.

These expectations are based on the features of the existing Legion portable SSD of Lenovo. Lenovo has yet to make an announcement about any details that are related to global availability. However, if the users are in the market for something that is already accessible internationally, the Samsung T9 is a viable alternative. 2TB is right now priced at $169.99 on Amazon for the buyers.
