Recently, some major outages were experienced by Reddit users last week on Thursday, however, Friday evening brought more headaches for the site as the delays continued for close to two hours.
Accessing the site at that time revealed a plethora of error pages that a desktop browser could not distinguish. On switching to incognito mode, however, the page did open, albeit quite slowly at whatever was considered the normal loading speed.
It has also been found that accessing Reddit via mobile Safari while logged out allowed logging in without any problems. According to the Reddit status page, by 7:58 PM ET, it said, “We are currently investigating an incident where we are experiencing an elevated level of errors.”
By 8:40 PM ET, it went on to say, “The issue has been identified, and a fix is being implemented.” By 9:47 PM ET, it was indicated, “This incident has been resolved.”
According to a report by Downdetector, there was a massive spike in outage reports from around 7.30 pm ET to as much as 80,000. Reports have almost returned to normal levels just after 9 pm ET.
The firm was asked to comment on the outage issue, however, they chose not to reply on time. Moreover, on the international front, the previous day had seen ‘international outages,’ as has been noted by global international monitoring service NetBlocks.
However, some users did not experience any difficulties during the period of outage when other users encountered issues. Reddit stayed out for unreasonable periods in the country, frustrating many users. A plethora of reports then flooded X (formerly Twitter), where users shared their experiences on the “page not found” error. Downdetector already logged more than 1,500 such reports being flooded by users as the Reddit app and its website failed to function correctly.
